ChinaGo is a China travel survival kit — powered by a Singapore APN roaming eSIM that keeps all your Western apps online from the moment you land for foreign visitors — built by people who've actually landed in Beijing or Shanghai without a plan and spent the first day in panic.
We provide step-by-step setup guides for the apps you need in China (WeChat, Alipay, Didi, Maps, eSIM, 12306 train tickets) Our eSIM routes through Singapore APN roaming, so Google, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, and all other Western apps work from the moment you land — no VPN needed., before you even get to the airport SIM counter.
We're not a paid app. We're tutorials — text and video guides that walk you through every step on your own phone. The apps themselves are free (Tencent, Ant Group, Didi, etc). Note: Our eSIM provides data only — no phone number, no calls, no SMS. Our guides just make them actually usable for foreigners.
Think of us as the friendly colleague who already figured this out, wrote it all down, and made it idiot-proof.
No. And we mean it — we've designed guides for complete beginners who can't read a single Chinese character and have never heard of a QR code payment.
Every step in our guides is labeled with exactly which button to tap, what the screen should look like, and what to do if something goes wrong. Screenshots show the English version of the screen (or our translated version). No Chinese reading required.
That said: you'll need about 30-45 minutes total to set up everything before your trip. Budget that time. Don't do it at the gate.
Set aside 30-45 minutes to set up everything, ideally at home before you pack. Here's the timeline we recommend:
- 1 week before: Download all apps. Test them with WiFi before you leave.
- 48 hours before: Start WeChat real-name verification — it can take up to 48 hours to process.
- 24 hours before: Install your eSIM before you leave home (Chinese law requires activation abroad). Restart your phone, turn on data roaming — it activates automatically when you land.
- At the airport: Your apps should already be ready. Turn on data roaming.
One critical thing: download all apps before you leave home, because Google Play is blocked in China.
Our guides specifically cover mainland China — the 23 provinces and 5 autonomous regions where the Great Firewall applies.
Hong Kong: Different jurisdiction. Use WhatsApp, Google Maps, Instagram freely. Regular Visa works in most places.
Macau: Similar to Hong Kong. Pataca (MOP) is the local currency.
Taiwan: Use your regular apps. Payment is EasyCard or regular foreign cards.
If visiting multiple regions, email us before buying.

But here's the math: buying 3 individual guides costs $29.7. Pro Kit costs $39 — that's only $9.30 more for videos, audio, PDF, AND priority support.
If you only need one app, buy standalone. If you need three or more, just get Pro.

You pay once — $9.9 per guide, $39 for Pro, or $89 for Group — and you have lifetime access. Every future update included.
We built it this way because most travelers visit China 1-3 times. You shouldn't pay every year.
We're in final testing with PayPal and Airwallex. Once live, you'll be able to pay with PayPal, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay, Google Pay.
All payments processed by PCI-DSS-certified providers. We never store your card details.

If your trip is postponed, we usually extend your eSIM validity instead of refunding.

Yes — 100% official apps from the actual companies. We never recommend third-party APKs or modded apps. Every app in our guides is free, official, and available on the App Store or Google Play.
Yes — all apps work on both platforms. We have separate walkthroughs for each because the interfaces differ. iPhone users need iOS 12+, Android users need Android 8+.
Alipay (Tourist Pass): Full English — easiest.
WeChat: Interface can be set to English. Group chats remain in Chinese.
Didi: Built-in English mode available.
Apple Maps: Works in English.
Amap: Chinese only — we teach a Google Translate workaround.
12306: Website has partial English; app is Chinese — Chrome auto-translate works well.
Good news: all major Chinese apps accept foreign phone numbers. Enter your country code + number. WeChat SMS may be delayed 5-10 minutes. Didi up to 20 minutes. 12306 uses passport verification instead. Don't request multiple codes — it can lock your number temporarily.
Payment in China
Alipay, WeChat Pay, foreign cards, hidden fees.

Hotels (3-star+): ~80% accept foreign cards. Large chain restaurants: ~60%. Small restaurants: ~20%. Street vendors: ~5%. Taxis: cash or mobile only.
Recommendation: Set up Alipay Tourist Pass before you fly. It accepts Visa, Mastercard, and most foreign debit cards with near-wholesale exchange rates and 0% markup.
No — get one working first. Start with Alipay Tourist Pass (easiest setup, 5 minutes). WeChat Pay's advantage (peer-to-peer payments) only matters if you have Chinese contacts sending you money. 90% of visitors only need Alipay.
Yes. Both apps create a virtual card number (token) — they never store your actual card number on your phone. Both Alibaba and Tencent invest billions in security. You can unlink your card instantly from Settings.
Use phone biometrics (Face ID / fingerprint) lock on both apps — we show you how in our guides.
Foreign cards incur 2.5-4.5% total in fees: bank foreign transaction fee (1-3%), China's payment network (0.5-1%), card network markup (0.2-1%).
Alipay Tourist Pass charges 0% foreign transaction fee and uses near-wholesale exchange rates — often better than your own bank.

iPhone: XS and newer. Pixel: 3 and newer. Samsung: S20 series and newer (some China/HK models have eSIM disabled). Other Android: Most 2020+ flagships from Sony, Oppo, Xiaomi, OnePlus support eSIM.
To check: Settings → Cellular (iPhone) or Settings → Mobile Network → SIM Manager (Android). Look for "Add eSIM" or "Add Cellular Plan".
3-5 days (light use): 10 GB. 1-2 weeks (average): 20-30 GB. 2+ weeks (heavy use): Unlimited. Most travelers in the 2-week range use 15-25 GB. Our 30 GB plan covers 90% of trips comfortably.
Yes — and they stay online all day. Our eSIM routes through Singapore APN roaming, bypassing the Great Firewall entirely. Google Maps, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Gmail, Telegram — everything works, no VPN, no setup required.
What else works: WeChat, Apple Maps, Baidu, Zoom, Outlook. Everything Western — plus all the Chinese apps you need.
Yes — hotspot and tethering are fully supported on all our eSIM plans. Speeds are 20-100 Mbps typical in major cities. Keep a power bank handy if tethering all day — it drains battery faster.
Transport & Travel
Didi, trains, metro, taxis, getting around.

Yes. Any international number works. SMS code may take 5-20 minutes — be patient. If it fails, try again in 30 minutes (max 3 attempts). Didi International (a separate app) has an English interface and works even more smoothly for foreigners.
It's straightforward once you know the system. 12306 website accepts foreign passports for registration. Book early — popular routes sell out. We recommend booking at least 3-5 days ahead during peak season. Our guide covers the complete passport-to-ticket workflow.
Apple Maps works in China with limited data. MAPS.ME works fully offline. Amap is the most accurate but Chinese-only. Our guide covers all three and provides a Google Translate camera workaround for Amap.
Legal & Practical

Only government-approved VPNs are legal in mainland China. Most commercial VPNs are detected and blocked. Our eSIM makes VPN unnecessary. Your data routes through Singapore APN roaming, so Google, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, and all other Western apps work directly — no VPN, no compromises.
Yes — China requires real-name registration for telecom services. Our eSIM plans are pre-registered through compliant carriers, so you don't need to visit a store. Physical SIM purchases at local carriers require in-person passport registration.
