My Lost Item Was Found in China — How Do I Get It Back?

Good news: your item has been found.

But you may already be in another city — or out of China.

Now you need to work out how to get it back.

Confirm who has it

Before arranging anything, confirm:

  • who is holding the item;
  • where it is;
  • how long they will keep it;
  • what they need before releasing it.

If a hotel, airport, station or other organization has it, ask about their collection rules first.

Ask if they can send it to you

Start with the simplest option.

Ask whether they can send the item to you.

If you're already home and they can send it there, the problem may be straightforward.

If you're still traveling in China, there is another question:

Will it reach you before you move again?

If you're still traveling, check the timing and destination

Don't automatically send the item to where you are now.

Find out when it can be sent and when it is likely to arrive.

If you're leaving your current hotel tomorrow, sending it there may create another problem. Your next hotel — or another address where you will be long enough to receive it — may be a better option.

The best address is not always where you are now.

What matters is whether the return still works with the rest of your trip.

If the timing doesn't work, work out another handoff

If they won't send the item, or you cannot reliably receive it before moving on, find out what other options they allow.

Can someone else collect it for you?

Do you need to authorize them?

Can a courier collect it, or does someone need to go in person?

If the item needs to travel to another city or country, also check that the delivery service can accept it. Not every item can be sent in the same way.

Don't start with the courier. Start with the handoff.

Once you know how the item can be released, you can choose a return route that still works with your trip.

If getting it back starts taking too much of your trip

Sometimes the difficult part isn't knowing what to do. It's keeping the return moving while your trip keeps moving too.

ChinaGo Concierge can help work out what needs to happen next, communicate with the person or place holding your item, and help choose a return path that still works with your trip.

If the situation changes, we can help work through the next step.

We do not guarantee recovery or act as the courier. Any collection, delivery or other third-party costs are separate and paid by you.
